I asked this recently in another thread:

How is it that the situation can occur (is fairly common, actually)
where streaming continues from the server, but there's no audio out at
the player?  

It wouldn't be quite so remarkable if the system (server+player)
_thought_ that it was playing audio, but when the progress bar and the
VU meters show no movement, then it must know that nothing is
happening.  Yet usually at the same time, it appears to be mostly
business as usual.  No error messages are shown anywhere, track title
info is nicely scrolled on the display, and the web interface usually
shows a moving progress bar and sometimes will appear to move on to
play the next track.

This shouldn't be allowed to happen.  If you have to display an ugly
message saying nothing other than "Error - No Audio", it would be
better.
