Some new data: I just installed 7.3 (23459, installed from the deb package) on my Lenovo laptop and I don't have the failure to power off issue. The problem reported earlier was with 7.3 (23523, installed from the tarball) running on my LinkStation Pro (ARM proc). So it seems to be something platform-specific.
