Thanks.  I reverted to playing around with it from the command line
instead of within SC 7.3, just attempting to get Flac to save the
results to a file.  Never did get it to work.  I tried it both with the
WAV header and without, and also removed --totally-silent, but the
process just appears to run without error and I get no file.  Haven't
tried your last suggestion, though.
