I'll be honest, I'm hearing mixed messages about this. I have never gotten softsqueeze to work with 7.3, and when I downgrade to 7.2 it works immediately. Upgrade back to 7.3 and softsqueeze is broken. You milage will vary, but I'm guessing that the new audio playback code just plainly doesn't work with softsqueeze?
