Can I assume you are using Ubuntu 8.10 desktop, and also that you have rebooted the ubuntu PC, since you had this problem. Are you trying to mount a samba share from the NAS, if so how is it mounted (automount or fstab). Try mounting the NAS share manually using the "Places" menu and browsing to the NAS.
