This is a true bug you should file it !

the "normal" players are differentiated by their mac I think (possible
other things to ) ? all SB3 have macs in in a certain series as all
SBR's etc.

There must be something in this mechanism that fails

I only have one desktop PC so i can't try with more SP's going but hove
do your squeezecenter>settings >information page looks like ?

There is player information there, as an example from my server
"ubuntu" is a SqueeszePlay client the rest are hardware players.

Player Information
Information on all identified devices connected to SqueezeCenter

Ubuntu

Player Model: transporter

Player IP Address: 192.168.1.4

Player MAC Address: 00:13:d4:b5:0b:cc

kök

Player Model: receiver

Firmware: 57

Player IP Address: 192.168.1.3

Player MAC Address: 00:04:20:16:3f:16

Wireless Signal Strength: 99%

vardagsrum

Player Model: squeezebox3

Firmware: 122

Player IP Address: 192.168.1.2

Player MAC Address: 00:04:20:06:42:42

Wireless Signal Strength: 75%

You see they are all presented with their macs.
But then again my my SqueezePlay does not run on the server itself, can
that be a difference ?

Notice that my SqueezePlay says it's a "transporter" it's an ugly hack
to avoid resampling of 24/96 files on the server for squeezeplay, my
desktop is more powerfull than the server so i prefer resampling to
take place there if needed at all

Maybe an ugly work around could be to hack one SqueezePlay to present
itself as another player type, in the meantime when they work at the
bug

open LocalPlayer.lua and change line 32 from ["squeezeplay"] = 12, to
["squeezeplay"] = 5,
