I am seeing something similar - and a bit more besides that suggest ALAC files are being treated strangely. Most of my music is Apple Lossless, encoded with either iTunes or Max. On 7.4 the Max encoded files do not play - get a longs string about being unable to open the file, itunes files seem OK. On 7.3.3 all seem to play OK (and always have done in previous versions).
Also noticed that in both 7.3.3 and 7.4 the Max encoded files are now shown as file type 'MP4' whereas the itunes encoded files are shown as 'Quicktime Movie'. Previously they were all shown as 'Apple AAC or Movie' (or something similar - this wasn't correct but at least it was consistent!). Both also show up with the same info in Finder as MPEG4 audio files.
