Hi, I had a similar problem installing a WHS test build a couple of months ago. I resolved it by manually starting the service once I got the "service could not start" message and then selecting retry in the install. (i.e. don't cancel the install when you see the error message start the service and then select the retry button in the install window). This is from memory, so sorry if it is not 100% accurate.
