Thanks Andy. The preference pane shows that it has started, but after ten seconds or so (by the time the Squeezeboxes show the connecting message) the button in the pane changes to show it's not running. If I press "start", the same thing happens for as long as I'm happy to keep trying. It never runs for long enough to start a scan or do allow me to control anything. There were several such attempts in the log attached to my first message. Could the fact that I've had Alien BBC and iTunes Update installed for years (long before they were available via the extension downloader) be messing something up? Or should I look elsewhere? I'm happy to try things out and provide more information if you can suggest what is needed.
