I've just installed Version: 7.4 - r27217 on an XP build and it's working fine (versions in the last week or so have failed in the way you describe). Is this the version you are trying to install?
I also saw something similar the first time I tried to install the latest version. Was resolved by killing squeezetray.exe and the Squeeze~1.exe instance. Then restarted Squeezebox Server from the Program manger. Worked fine second time round. You may want to check that you have killed all Squeezecenter related processes like squeezeboxcp.exe and squeezetray before you try and install a new version. Also, I regularly wipe my cache and prefs, which helps a lot when you are regularly installing beta versions as your settings don't get corrupted. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)?
