I'm running SC as a service on XP and got the error on install. I looked into the perl58.dll and found no entry oint for Perl_newXS-flags, so that appears to be a problem to me (is there a newer dll?).
I did delete the pdk folders and SC now does start on boot. But when changing users in Windows the TryIcon is dead, i.e. no LEDs!
