I don't see much advantage to anyone but the developer who no longer has to manually add a comment to the bug. Most of the time that was done and the net effect was roughly the same. Actually, the comments made manually to Bugzilla were usually better, often asking for followup info, or asking reporters to test the fix in a particular way.
