I've been using 7.4 under Ubuntu 8.10 for a while and it is pretty stable. There was a fairly big problem in August when big changes were made to the SBC user interface, especially for a lot of people who didn't realize they were running alpha/beta software. All that seems to have settled down now.
One potential 'gotcha' is that SC 7.4 now runs under username 'squeezeboxserver' (Squeezebox Server, or SbS, is the new name for SC) instead of username 'squeezecenter'. At least that's the case for *nix systems, I don't know about Windows or MacOS. The .deb package *should* take care of creating the new user account and setting up the appropriate /var/log/squeezeboxserver/ and /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/ directories, as well as installing a new startup script for SBS. You may well also need to change file and folder ownership for your playlists, which need to be writeable by user 'squeezeboxserver'. When they first rolled out these changes it was recommended to uninstall the existing SC before installing a clean SBS. I don't know if that's still the case for new upgrades to 7.4, but subsequent updates from the nightlies have been smooth. I don't know what the plans are regarding putting 7.4 into testing repo before putting it in the stable repo. If you want to install 7.4 today, change your sources.list to unstable main. -- aubuti ------------------------------------------------------------------------ aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68264 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
