Squeezcenter is the only thing running on XP box. I used to always install by downloading file directly fom nightly directories and running the executable. The last several times I have been using the install update option from the squeezcenter icon in the system tray. If I do not have any web ui up it seemed to rest the preferences. I have not knowingly saved these to disk specifically so not sure what you mean there. The last udate though I left the web browser open and the preferences were not changed . . .
