Switching databases via overwriting prefs settings (with some sort of
script) and connecting to an "external" mysql store has always been
possible, ever since the 1st inclusion of mysql in slimserver. The
bigger problems (as I see them) are:

Switching databases without requiring a sbs service restart..

-- or ---

Player-specific databases or, perhaps easier to achieve with the
current architecture: player-specific 'collection' filtering.

Seemingly, that would be an easier enhancement to implement: when
browsing in the context of a specific client, limit the query results by
specific 'collections'. More settings would have to be tacked onto the
'Music Library' settings page allowing the user to define multiple
'collections' composed of genre and or artist names and or some file
path element. Then, on the player's settings page, a setting to allow
library queries by that player to be limited to a certain 'collection'.

That would probably keep the multiple users with differing tastes in a
family environment happy: nobody ends up having to wade through some
other family member's crappy music...all without having to resort to
running multiple instances of the server software or having to make the
server software capable of having to support multiple dbs at once.

Additionally, this would have the advantage that no re tagging of the
music would be required.

I can't have been the first person to think of this. I'm going to bet
that Erland has already done this in one of his plugins.
