I think this was mentioned elsewhere, but looking into the SQLite database I see that for compilation albums the contributor column isn't being set to the VA artist. This appears to mostly affect the sort order of albums by artist, where VA albums would normally be sorted under 'V'. But maybe it also contributes to the multi-disc compilation grouping bug.
