Hi i got an exchange controller as a part of an ongoing bug search.
And of course it has to be setup to be used.
It was brand new came in it's original box.
That went ok it is working fine looks good etc, but thats only because
I've done this x times now. So i have no apparent problems doing it.

But the setup procedure is still an obstacle course that would make the
likelihood that a new user get this thing working close to 0% .

Here how i experienced the procedure . If you note some tone of
frustration ,that is correct . I wrote this quickly so to not get
unfrustrated, I'm normally nice, but if you want logitech to know how
the experience feels like..

1. SBC is still delivered with way old FW, so it search for
squeezenetwork ? and present a pin number to you ? Pin is not in use
anymore.
(could someone open the boxes and put in FW that is current with the
release thank you)

2. The obvious solution to this problem is to go to "other networks"
type in your servers ip let it connect to your local server and it
upgrades to a new FW and reboots. Otherwise the SD card solution is also
an option as we all know by now.

3. Then you do a factory reset because the previus fw was from the old
7.0 era an as everybody knows its better do do that before going on with
the new 7.4 - 7.5 FW yes (tried without it did not complete the
mysbs.com setup).

4. Now the real setup can begin, it finds networks and accept my WAP
pass and connects with DHCP ok. Btw it still does not ask if you want
static or dhcp as it absolutely *should* do right here, this is the
ignored bug 7502 with 31 votes ? I will fix it later, other seasoned
users turn of their dhcp server during the setup.

5. Now you get to choose between creating a mysqueezebox.com account or
punch in credentials for your existing one this works ok.

6. Now it wants to setup players ? and here it is on a menu who says
"setup receiver" but I have 3 active and connected players ?
There is no other options presented !?
It is now clear that the SBC is unaware of my local server /players.
Obviously to make this work, the SBC *should* have found/prompted for
details of the local server after or before point 5 !
But this is no news to a seasoned user so to get out of any dead end
menu in the SBC you press and hold the left arrow for a while.

7. Now you go to settings>advanced>remote libraries and here you type
in the ip of your local server.

8. Now it is basically ready to rock, but you will probably wrangle
with some more settings like wallpapers screensavers and time and date
format, home menu and set those to your liking.

8a. optional: as i did not want to turn of my dhcp server I will now
use ssh and edit the ect/network/interfaces file instead.

Very easy ;)

Further thoughts the old set up was not easy either but it was actually
better, so somebody have worked hard and wasted time doing the product
worse to handle ?

the SBC/SBR combination can still not find my present server, it has
never done this, sbc need to told the actual ip , the receiver needs a
nudge with net-udap to know the server ip, is there any undocumented
ports that needs to be open that is not described in the
documentation/forum/wiki .

what does happen when for example sbc discovers a server ? are there
any other "obvious" network settings to figure out ?

Now I'm not frustrated anymore, but more curious to why it is like this
?
This is not even bugs, before you see any actual project or product
somebody usually drafts some kind of detailed functional description etc
on what it should do and how you should interact with it. So this has
gone south very early in the design process.
