Coming back to this - the easiest solution to add build support for developers on 10.6 is to check in the new versions of SDL/portaudio and a new makefile for this. This should avoid any impact on other platforms while we try out whether the updated libraries work for them. There's one change we may need to a shared makefile for luamd5 (which I don't think was building on osx before?)
