Just to be sure I understand correctly... For the final implementation
(not this test), if a Flac file contains a Flac-generated MD5 checksum
('MD5 signature') in the STREAMINFO metadata block, then that MD5 will
be used as the  track's unique identifier and SbS won't calculate its
own checksum?

I just ran a little test and the Flac-generated MD5 checksums for both
a Flac file re-encoded at different compression levels and for the raw
WAV file encoded at different compression levels are all exactly the
same.  Which means that it must be calculated on the UNcompressed data.
Which is good (if these checksums are used by SbS as identifiers), it
means that you could re-compress your entire library at a different
Flac compression level and maintain the persistent identifier.
