Yes, it is pretty much "grab X random songs".

In the initial sample, it will be unique (in that it grabs a list of
songs in random order) items.

Erland's plugins can allow some more useful randomness: excluding
things that really shouldn't be included (I drop things with 'explicit'
in the genre, things that are less than 90 seconds, or greater than 20
minutes for my work playlist) and can skip songs that have been played
'recently'.

Of course human brains love pattern matching and finding patterns.  So
you -will- hear 2 songs from the same artist or album next to each
other.  Those cases will sit in your head more than all the times you
-don't' hear that.  Add in fun statistical brain-confusers like "the
birthday paradox" (google for it if you don't know what it is...) and
the randomness will seem less random than it is...

I just hit '>>' when my radio plays something I think isn't random
enough or just not matching my current interest.
