Thanks for the help. I'm running with the default SQlite, its very much quicker scanning on my system. A full scan after deleting the cache takes 30 minutes compared to four or five hours with 7.5.
I use Windows shortcuts for the indexing the subfolders. Could this be related? No network files - all are on a local USB drive. One thing I've notice is that if I clear the cache and allow a initial scan (which triggers the scanner process) it is stable and I don't get any unwanted scans being triggered until after I do a manual scan (either 'look for new and changed music' or 'clear database') at which point it gets into a loop and doesn't stop even after restarting SBS. The only way to stop the scanning is to delete the cache and start afresh.
