As I've understood, there has never been any plans to officially
support MySQL in 7.6, the plan was to make it available for people who
dared to try it. Already from the beginning Logitech has said that they
probably won't do any structured testing or offer support for users that
use MySQL in 7.6.

With a scenario like this, I think it's a good idea to remove it from
the GUI to avoid that normal users change to MySQL without being aware
that it's an unsupported and untested configuration.

As I've understood, the intention is still to make both MySQL and
SQLite work for users that edit the configuration files manually,
pretty much as it worked in the old 6.3 days, but it will probably be
up to the community members to perform testing and provide patches if
we want to ensure that it really works.

So far, the only real argument for MySQL I've seen is that it makes it
easier to develop plugins and look inside the database (since there are
better tools for MySQL). Some people says that MySQL performs better in
larger libraries, but as far as I know no one has done a real
comparison to prove that this is the case. As long as 7.6 with SQLite
is faster than 7.5 with MySQL I don't see a problem regarding the
performance.

So for anyone that really wants to continue use MySQL, I suggest that
you do some testing and register bugs and possibly even patches for the
things that doesn't work so everyone that wants MySQL can vote on them
to raise their priority.

Personally, I prefer that Logitech just choose one database engine and
instead spend their time on music related stuff. I would have preferred
if the engine used was MySQL but if this can't be the case I think it's
the right choice to drop MySQL and only support SQLite and instead
focus the time on other more important issues which actually makes a
difference during music listening/exploring.
