Philip, this is very similar to what happened to me with the daylight
saving induced all changed files rescan
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86802).
I had to babysit the scan by leaving the SB Control Panel open in one
window and the Settings web ui in another. The scanner would crash and
the Control Panel box would change to "Start Squeezebox Server" while
the web ui would just freeze on a track but still indicate that the
scan was proceeding. It was then a matter of clicking "Start SB Server"
in the Control Panel and then "Rescan" for "New and Changed Music".
After half a dozen or so restarts the scan completed, always being able
to read the track that it had crashed on in the previous run.
