Is it possible to see in the scanner log if the problem occurs on a
specific file or a specific artwork image ? Maybe by enabling some more
debug logging on the scanner in SBS Settings/Advanced/Logging ?

Is the auto scanning enabled ? SBS
Settings/Advanced/Performanc/Automatically detect changes
