7.6 -has- changed the way unique artists are recognized, but you'll end up with two artists even in 7.5 and earlier. The changes to 7.6 are that the names must match _exactly_, including accents on letters and capitalization. Nothing has changed with respect to dropping articles.
The 'Articles To Ignore -When Sorting-' are used only for sorting.
