I know there are people who have considered to fork but so far everyone
has realized that it's too complex to just fork because you want to add
more functionality, especially since a lot can be done without forking
through plugins and applets.
The reason to fork has to be that you want to accomplish something
different than Logitech and it needs to be a group of people not a
single individual developer. It's unrealistic to think that a single
developer can maintain a forked version on his/hers spare time when
Logitech needs several full time developers to maintain their version.
Contribute changes to Logitech works for small changes but it currently
doesn't work for anything larger because Logitech doesn't invest enough
resources to be able to look at and consider and decide to include
larger patches.
