All of the following is IMO. Some of this pertains to only to LMS, but much of it also to SBS 7.6:
- Display a 'Discovering media/music/playlist files' stage for _each_ type of scan (media, music and playlists). Currently the media scan counts up rather than showing a discovering pass, then 'n of m' during the scanning of new files. It's good (maybe important?) to know how many files were found, so that you can later see how many were successfully scanned. - In the discovering pass, count only _relevant_ files, i.e. files that will then be scanned. What's the point of count up to and displaying 33,619 files, when only 28,253 are music files? Skip the counting of non-relevant files. - There's not much point in displaying the file name being examined during the discovering files pass. It serves little purpose. - Always dsplay a progress bar, just for consistency. When you're counting up to an unknown number just display an all gray bar (~ 0%) until you finish. I think this is what's causing the display in 7.6 to jump around. - During the scanning new and scanning changed passes, display the file name in human-readable format. I believe in 7.6 these are displayed in URL-escaped form. - Don't display 'Scanning 1 of 1' new files during a new & changed scan when there are 0 files. This can be more than a little bit misleading. I'd prefer that each pass of the scan is displayed '0 of 0' when there are no files being handled by that pass. - In LMS distinguish between media scanning, music scanning and playlist scanning. That is, spell it out in each progress message: Discovering media files Scanning new media files Scanning changed media files Deleting music files Discovering music files Scanning new music files Scanning changed music files Deleting music files etc. It should be basically the same process for each type of scan. -- JJZolx ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89345 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
