FWIW, that's what I do from time to time, followed by a full rescan. An alternative approach is to use Erland's CustomBrowse/TrackStat plugins, which does allow for browsing for truly new music (can create a New Albums menu, New Artists, etc), as it can track when files were scanned into the library, ignoring when they were updated.
