You may want to read up on SSDP. SSDP is how UPnP devices/services
advertise themselves, and how control points discover other devices on
the network. I don't believe that UPnP will work across subnets
though... usually it's limited to just the local network. If you're just
using the firewall to protect systems on your network, and everything is
on the same subnet, then you may need to also allow a multicast address
through the firewall as well in order for UPnP/SSDP to function
properly.
