I don't bother with the time stamps I just very slightly changed the folder name or file names. Normally I either add or delete a hyphen between track no and track name in the file name which is really easy to do in mp3tag.
I've done this quite a lot recently as I'm moving away from embedded artwork as much as possible and replacing with cover.jpg in the album folder, principally because I want decent resolution artwork because the preview version of Orange Squeeze allows pinch to zoom on art work. Its never failed to pick up the new artwork this way using a normal new and changed scan. I think because it picks them up as deleted then new tracks rather than modified if you just change the date.
