OS of the server?
I don't remember if the m3u playlist file format changed between 7.7.3 &
7.8, but this is what a 7.8 playlist looks like:

You can see that each track has three line entries: EXTURL, EXTINF &
file. Somehow your EXTINF lines have gone missing. If your playlists
have EXTINF entries, the problem might be something as trivial as line
endings.
