I have now tried various LMS781 nightlies, and keep having the same
problem. After a couple of days running, LMS gets really slow and
unresponsive. Some times so slow that music can't stream without
interruptions (on wired LAN which is in no way heavy loaded).

Can you please confirm you don't see this behaviour with 7.8.0 or whatever you were running before? And please check eg. memory consumption or CPU load when this happens.

I'm running my LMS 7.8.1 on a ReadyNAS Ultra 2. And latest version I
have tried and just got the problem with, is LMS 7.8.1-1397093297 from
20140410 (I probably installed it on the 11th, so it has been running
3-4 days). Restarting the NAS and LMS solves the problem (Is there a way
I can trigger a restart of LMS *only*, to verify it's not a NAS issue? -
besides of course waiting to be prompted by a plugin update?).

/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver restart

or similar. Or disable the extension in the NAS add-on manager.
