Hi Peter Sorry to hear that. I've got 3 booms here all playing nicely with 7.9 (1403985527 from 11th July). Yes a reset of the Boom sounds like a good idea, I'd reboot the router too just in case. As your remote player works ok it sounds like something wifi or boom related to me which is why I say reset the router too.
If still no joy try looking at Wireless Signal & Network Test on the Boom (drill down from the Settings menu on Boom) to see if that gives further clue.
