Yes, on my Boom I can browse to the new USB album, but can't play from folder or file.
Are you trying to play some track which needs transcoding (m4a, ogg etc.)? This is broken in today's nightly build. Should be fixed now.
FWIW: I just verified this with a crappy USB stick (a 3G modem with a micro-SD card plugged in) as well as with an SD card plugged in directly to my computer. Both worked as expected, I could even copy files to the SD card, re-enter the menu on the boom and play it immediately.
