For Foobar 2000 (one of the best/versatile media players), you should ensure the following is configured: File > Preferences Advanced Tagging > MP3 > ID3v2 revision and quirks Ensure "Map TPE2 to Album Artist" is unticked. Then Mp3Tag, Foobar and LMS should all work consistently.
