Yes, something should be done in the scripting to make sure that resizing the window doesn't completely hide the left-hand pane. Or to make sure that the divider always remains visible, so that the left-hand side can be expanded.
To tell you the truth, though, I've never encountered the problem. What I do, and perhaps this could be a workaround for you, is to always keep the right-hand side at its minimum width (without completely hiding it, which is now possible in 7.9). When I'm browsing through the library, I want as much screen real estate as I can get on the left size so that I can see as many covers in a row as possible. The current playlist on the right will text wrap just fine, so I see no reason to make it any wider than the minimum.
