Thanks - as usual I've failed to do my research (well in truth I do now
recall seeing it here but I just forgot - memory fades....).
With the fulltext plugin disabled the custom browse menus do seem to be
OK. I never fully worked out which ones didn't work and which did, I
just used different menus when I got into problems. But hold on....., I
just added fulltext back in to recheck which menus failed, and they all
seem to work now.
I've checked the versions on custom browse and scan are unchanged (and I
don't update plugins automatically anyway), and fulltext is in, and I
restarted LMS, but the menus seem OK now. Is this possible?
I am now very confused.
There is another less important issue. On the Interface I use some
CustomScan and TrackStat tags. These used to show in the playlist
information, but now none show up whether the fulltext plugin is in or
not. My spec is currently:

Squeezelite to Meridian USB Explorer DAC to PC speakers/headphones.
Wireless Xubuntu 15.10 laptop firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with
Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver.
Also a Touch with EDO, plus spare, unused.
