my understanding is that LMS does scan in ratings for FLAC files, using the 0-100 scale where 20 is one star, 40=2, 60=3, 80=4, 100=5.
is this correct? do those stars show up in LMS? does LMS scan ratings for anything other than FLACs? can LMS please do the same for id3, m4a, and other file types? id3 uses POPM and a 0-255 scale: 224-255 = 5 stars when READ with Windows Explorer, writes 255 160-223 = 4 stars when READ with Windows Explorer, writes 196 096-159 = 3 stars when READ with Windows Explorer, writes 128 032-095 = 2 stars when READ with Windows Explorer, writes 64 001-031 = 1 star when READ with Windows Explorer, writes 1 the above has become a nearly universal de facto standard. m4a uses the %rate% atom with a 0-100 scale like FLAC. (windows exp uses some atom of its own for m4a, but i don't know of anything other than windows that uses it) wma does some weird thing: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd564545%28v=vs.85%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 so anyway... can LMS please scan in these ratings, and display them? ref: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3741 http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=142 http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13420 http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2205 http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12022 http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8965 ps. i think LMS should stick to its default behavior of not writing to files, however i do think an opt-in plugin that allows a user to write new, or edit existing ratings, in music files would be a great idea. using: win7 64 + lms 7.9 & duet & ipads w/the logitech app, and ipeng on an ipod http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/various_artists_logic & http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/compilations ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BJW's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58242 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105183 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
