All those ideas are great. This idea, from Andrew, Sebastian and the questions from Brecht (really important, btw). Specifically about changing RMB vs LMB, I think the ideal would be to go to a workflow based on tools, where the user can select the tool called Right Selection that if it is enabled makes Blender works like now: RMB to select and left to paint, for example. It is a Win Win: a toggle at the new Tool Shelf. I prefer to use RMB, but for a better user experience, I totally agree with LMB. This way would be simple to understand and it's neat solution, IMHO.
