I still thinks objects should have their own visibility toggles - creating a new collection by hand to hide a single object is too cumbersome IMO. I also think by default you should have a regular collection, not the master collection in your starting scene. In general, the action 'I want these objects in their own collection, and do X with them (for instance hide them)' should be as easy as possible. With master collection in scene, that's pretty difficult (you have to know what collection order does, and what happens when an object is in 2 collections). With regular collection, I would go: create collection>select objects>drag and drop to collection, eventually rmb the new collection>move to collection. 'Add to collection' should be considered advanced functionality (and so lower in the list/or having a tutorial popup or something), that is because having a single object in two collections is very non-intuitive. Equals user frustration and invalid bug reports.
