I appreciate the new policy as being useful to prevent unpredictable behaviour. At the same time it would be good if add-on preferences were included as a target for 2.66, as suggested by Campbell. IMHO this would alleviate some of the problems people experience from the transition to the new policy and provide additional functionality to add-on writers who are not affected. Moreover, this could potentially benefit end-users, providing a cleaner unified interface.
