Yes you could but its "recommended" that you dont. The reason being that in future expansions the curse cards will most likely be utilized more so you should just be in the habit of seeing them I guess. Also...they are used with the "Witch" card which is not used in the Starter deck configuration. You could use them in relation to the "Gardens" card as well to get more sets of 10 cards as you will get more points then the minus from the curse cards if you have plenty of gardens etc.
