Well, I'm 0-3, although once we had the big bad guy out on the table,
waiting to be smacked. For the last loss, the bad guy was 2 cards
away. In both games, I can think of numerous things we did that could
have gotten us a little further.

I'll say this: the game is balanced. MOST games will come down to the
bitter end, which means the big bad ghost incarnation is on the table
or close to getting on the table. It is harder than Pandemic for many
reasons - the first of which is you cannot arbitrarily end the game
"early". In Pandemic, you can get a good run, and win the game
quickly. In Ghost Stories, if you have a good run (e.g. got good Ghost
Cards in a row), you will eventually have to face the bad run as you
have to go through most all of the deck to win. The bad guy is at the
bottom part of the deck no matter what (on initiation level). Whether
you are good or great at this game, you still have to pound your way
to the end of the deck, which means facing all the toughest ghosts
too.

So it is DEFINITELY harder than Pandemic, although I think it is
winnable with smart play. We got SOOO close twice, and I'm guessing
we'll get there again soon.

The ONLY strategy I picked up from BGG (and one I would have figured
out anyway) is to put ghosts into the corners so that you can have two
chances at exorcising them. That strategy alone has been enough to get
me close.

I definitely like the game. It's a little different, although slightly
repetitive after getting through 30, 40, 50 ghosts. But is it the
"next best thing in gaming"? That's a little much to ask just because
YOU happened to buy it. It costs $30-$35 for goodness sakes. If I paid
$79.95 for a title, I'd expect it to be the next best thing, but not
for $30-$35. For me, it fits a nice "puzzle" niche that I am quite
fond of!
