They stated that some of the changes were done to lower bandwith
usage.
Whether or not the BGG down page comes from a different server behind
the firewall, it is still on the same subdomain using the same outward
facing IP and likely cutting into the same allocation of bandwidth
(though admittedly a relatively small amount).

I just don't see why they would purposely spend time to make it easier
to have someone constantly hitting refresh.
