Last night I finally got to play Neuroshima Hex, a game I've had and been reading the rules to for a few weeks now. I reread the rules (again) at lunch yesterday. I gave my friend a super-quick rundown of how the game worked and we were off.
He crushed me. Crushed is actually probably putting it lightly. It was a bloodbath. The first battle (which he called via a battle tile) went well, we both suffered losses and damaged each other's HQs an equal amount. >From that point on, however... I think the game requires a mix of spatial and temporal reasoning that isn't my particular strong point. I just can't seem to take both attack/defense directions AND initiative into account. I consider one or the other, then place the tile, excited about my cleverness. Then my opponent simply drops a unit with a higher intiative next to the tile I just placed and, viola, I've got a unit that is going to get smashed before it does anything. I guess part of the problem could be that I was playing Moloch, which only has 1 Move tile and I drew that tile as my first one. Also, tile draw order can really effect your performance - I drew a lot of Instant and Module tiles after the first battle while my opponent pulled a nice mix of units, modules, and Instants. Despite my epic beatdown, I really like the game. I am looking forward to trying it with a different, more mobile army (Hegemony, I am looking at you). --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "BGG Down" group.
