Less briefly, the character cards are larger, there are plastic minis for all characters, there are plastic cones (little ones = 1, big ones =5) instead of the little plastic counters for lives, etc, there are minor changes to areas on the map, and there's a new mechanic, Fate, with counters. The cards are marginally smaller, and have some detail changes on specific cards. There's an update pack available from FFG for Black Industries owners, so you can make your BI Talisman compatible with FFG expansions (what, you thought they were producing it just to be nice?) Look it up if & when BGG gets back up & running. It includes minis, character cards, main card deck and fate markers, plus rules. I'm currently painting the minis for a friend - very very good, and very very like the card illustrations.
