Hmm, My first answer will not help you in the slightest since I think the first upgrade everyone should get is Dunwich.
Rather than giving my opinion, I'll list the differences since that might help you make a better decision: Dark Pharoah: Good theme on the cards, can be played with the 'Dark Pharoah focused' rules which tends to theme the game around Nyarlathotep, quite tough if he is the Great Old One. Otherwise doesn't add much in the way of new mechanics King in Yellow: Adds Herald variant which allows you to play a very tough variant using the King in Yellow as the herald of the Great Old One. Makes the terror track a lot more painful. The King in Yellow Act cards can seriously hasten the end of the game if you aren't prepared. Black Goat: Also has a new herald in the form of the Black Goat of the Woods, and also has corruption cards which can come into play. Otherwise I think this is much more of a 'throw more cards in the stacks' expansion than anything that adds much in the way of new rules. I think Dark Pharoah has given me more utility but then I also bought that when I only had the base game. I don't know how King in Yellow or Black Goat play without all the other expansions since we always play with everything together!
