The GG bonus for the year is (has been) based on the number of new contributions during the membership drive in December. I think it's possible that some people delay subscribing until then just to drive up the bonus. I think it would make more sense in terms of revenue stream to give a GG kickback to all paying members just like they have been doing, except to uncouple the bonus calculation from the December membership drive. Then they could also give out an additional bonus for members who have never had a patron badge before, or at least who didn't have one for the previous year. This would serve the purpose of rewarding loyal members and giving new members an incentive to contribute any time during the year, not just in December. For the end-of-year membership push could still happen, but calculate the GG bonus based on total contributing members for the year, total new contributors for the year, or total $ of contributions for the year, instead of "total number of members who contribute in December". They'd jusy need to see where they are at the end of November, set a target goal for the end of December, and figure out an incentive if the goal is reached. Bang, zoom, done.
