It was attended by Ajay, Praveen, Santosh, Abhijeet R, Priyanka and Rishikesh. Intense discussion took place about root cause of problems seen in Pune. Self discipline was one point raised for public to follow. But at the same time countered by it is difficult to keep following, if large number of other people are breaking and there is no punishment. Discusion will continue. Ajay gave details about recent decision of Supreme Court with respect to 9th schedule. It was an enlightening and informative view. Questions like who is supreme in judiciary and legislative and roles which either are supposed to play were discussed. Looking forward for active participation. Dear All, One of our member, Deependra, is one out of 80 odd students who broke world record of remembering words in exact order. Please read http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=217647 They broke world record of 225 words. They remembered more than 250 words given in random order and recited in exact order. Earlier record was held by an Indian individual. They proved that even group of students with no extra ordinary abilities can do this by learning a technique. Many many congratulations to Deependra and his friends on achieving this unique record. Those whoever want to learn or interested to know more, can contact Deependra [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Once you learn you can teach many more. You can do real good service to community. The one named as Nambika Illam has a capacity of 90 students but only 40 were present because due to Christian and new year holidays maximum handicapped and mentally retarded children went to their home and other one was very small only with 8 children but it was suffering of lack of funds. 31-12-2006:- this meeting was attended by 1) Amit Singh 2) Ashwini P. 3) Amber Verma 4) Alok Priyadarshi* 5) Kunal* 6) Pankaj 7) Rajvir 8) Abhishek First we went to small orphanage talked to care taker and started the movie "Aniyan" (tamil super hit), distributed the chocolates among those kids. Now 4 of us went to Nambika Illam and talked to the Sister who was managing that orphanage. Since only one among us has knowledge of Tamil so communication was a difficult task. So to increase our interaction with students we distributed chocolates among them and asked "which movie u all want to see tomorrow". They all replied "Chadramukhi" So we promised that tomorrow we will come with that movie in evening. Now again we went to the first orphanage and gave sweets to them. After showing the movie we said good bye to them 01-01-2007:- Today two more brothers Prakash and Sarnathan joined us. we reached their by 3 pm, first distributed chocolates among them then started movie. During and after the movie we started simple talks with them like "what is your name" "in which class you are studying" etc. Sarnathan and Ashwini were translating English into Tamil and vice versa. They were replying our questions with great enthu. When we were leaving they told us to come again at pongal. This time we are planning to bring some educational CDs for them as well as will try to provide story books in Tamil. Vandematram As decided in our last meeting, we had to go to a remote village at 12-01-2007. The village we decided after discussing with many people is Naiykaneri (30 km. form Vellore). We started our journey by 9 in morning since only 2 buses are available for that place during whole day and no auto or any other facility is available to go there. In the way we found that really we were going to some remote area. Once we reached there, we first enquired about school and then went there. That was a 4 rooms, middle school with 57 boys and 73 girls, in each class 15 to 20 students were studying. There we had a discussion with head master. He was new to that place but promised the best help he could provide. Then we enquired about the population statistics. It was:- Total Population:-824 Male population:-409 Female Population:-415 0-3 year babies:- 36 ( 4.4%) 3-5 year kids:- 24 ( 2.9%) Adolescent boys:- 47 Adolescent girls:- 52 Above 55 Male:- 60 Above 55 Female:- 56 Now we decided to talk to general people. We talked to 20 people (11 female, 4 Male, 5 boys) and this is the summarized result of what ever we observed over there (infrastructure and people condition): 1) The village has small but well built houses. There are only 10 to 15 huts. The roads are in good condition and drainage system is quite well. After seeing this infrastructure I seriously asked with our local team member" hey is this a remote village. This would be considered 1 of the best villages in UP, Bihar or Orissa" 2) Maximum villagers are working in Agriculture field. We came to know that during summer due to lack of water they can't do any work. So they use to save their resources for that time (15 April to 15 August). 3) During day they use to work from early morning to 2'o clock. 4) Those who are working as daily labor in the field use to get 20 to 35 Rs. Daily depending upon age, productivity. 5) They all use to sell their products in Vellore and buy necessary things which are required for daily uses. 6) Initially they were not ready to even talk to us. They were telling "no, we are happy in whatever we are, we don't have any extra time" but after talking for some time 4 women are ready to work with us and since it was our first interaction with them we can hope that in future the no. will increase. Now after talking we decided to talk about our plans for future. Since these people have enough time during summer so they can work very easily with us. So we decided that we will start work with these 4 women from 15th Feb since we need good time to know the way of making good and tasty snacks and we have to get personal training for this then only we can train them. And before 15th April we will put a good example for other villagers. For first we thought of ourselves as a consumer of those products and thought "which product can be easily made which we (our college mates) are using very frequently" and we found " food products like chips, snack can be easily made and has a good demand" So our next step is to find some volunteer trainers who can train our first self-help group and we will provide this training from 17th Feb . There is another thing "Paper Bag" since the major input required for paper bag production is news paper which we can provide them for free after collecting it from our hostels so the bags will be too cheap. So we will work in these two directions in future and will try to search for more things which we can do at this stage. I have a firm believe that we have to impress our upcoming generation at any cost and keeping this in mind we talked to 5 boys also who are studying in different standards 8th to 10th. 2 of them are in 10th so we will try our best to give them a dream and provide all necessary facilities, support and help so that they will be able to achieve it. The best I can think is to make them able in clearing some good engineering college entrance exam since both have a good interest in math. During our cultural holidays we are planning for a meeting with collector or any other official person to whom we can ask for providing 1-2 trainees to train those women for making snacks as well as packaging work. Since we will be input provider and distributor for them initially so that thing is not required at first stage but once the no. will increase we will make 1 SHG just for exploring market and distributing the products. We all are very young and inexperienced so there may be many mistakes but we all are full of zeal and have same vision. So we need constructive criticism, guidance and whatever information you can provide us, we will be really grateful to you. Thanks in advance.
