METADATA MANAGEMENT LIBRARIAN

The University of Oregon Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, creative, and 
service-oriented colleague for the position of Metadata Management Librarian. 
Applicants should be eager to apply excellent technical and interpersonal 
skills as a member of the Digital Projects and Catalog Management (DPCM) Team. 
As one of seven metadata teams within the department of Metadata Services and 
Digital Projects, DPCM engages in a wide variety of catalog management and 
digital projects activities. This position manages many of the metadata 
production activities throughout the department. Reports to the Head of 
Metadata Services and Digital. 

Projects.
Metadata Services and Digital Projects provides a wide array of services 
resulting in intellectual, virtual and physical access to the library's 
collection; assists members of the University of Oregon community with 
organizing and making available collections of materials in a variety of 
formats; coordinates and supports the growth and maintenance of the library's 
digital collections; and maintains the University of Oregon's institutional 
repository, called Scholars' Bank.

Responsibilities:
This position plays a lead role in metadata management activities of the 
Digital Projects and Catalog Management (DPCM) Team: manages the Team's 
metadata creation and quality review activities for the online catalog and 
digital asset management systems using a variety of standards, currently 
including AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats, and Qualified Dublin Core; oversees and 
participates in metadata creation for the Libraries' digital collections; is 
responsible for integration of external sources of metadata into existing 
systems; participates in the selection, design and maintenance of metadata 
schemes, data dictionaries and controlled vocabularies; delivers staff training 
and instruction related to the library's digital collections; documents and 
maintains policies and procedures related to bibliographic and content 
management systems used within the Team, currently including the Innovative 
Interfaces, Inc. online catalog, and digital asset management systems; as part 
of the Team Leaders group, assists with defining policies and determining 
workflows. The successful candidate will support and enhance a diverse learning 
and working environment.

Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS; experience using one or more metadata 
schemes and content standards; knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats and 
integrated library systems; strong commitment to enhancing service through 
teamwork and responsiveness to users; excellent oral and written communication 
skills; ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and with people of 
culturally diverse backgrounds; and potential to excel in a dynamic academic 
library environment, demonstrating flexibility, initiative and creativity. 
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated problem-solving, 
workflow analysis, and project leadership skills; experience with an integrated 
library system (especially Innovative Interfaces); experience with a digital 
asset management system (especially CONTENTdm or DSpace); experience using one 
or more of the following: MARC, AACR2, LCSH, LCNAF; knowledge of other metadata 
schemes or content standards.

Salary:
$40,000 minimum, depending on qualifications, education, and experience. The UO

Employment Conditions:
Librarians hold academic faculty status with rank, and are non-tenured. 
Contracts are fixed-term and renewable (two or three years, depending on rank). 
Professional growth and service in keeping with university and library 
standards for promotion and retention is expected.
